After Georgia’s death, she wanted to preserve the property so everyone could appreciate and benefit from its history and beauty. She also wished that the property become a place for visitors to enjoy guided hikes. From that activity, they will learn about the land and make it a spot for meditation and reflection.
Initially, Bright Leaf Preserve was under the management of Texas Parks and Wildlife. Today, the land is owned and managed by the Austin Community Foundation. This private organization upholds Georgia’s will and maintains the land.
